Coming Soon: 38 Hindi Films to Look Forward to in 2024 (2024)

There are several reasons to feel stoked for the slate of Hindi film releases in 2024. We are going to see Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi collaborate for a neo noir thriller (Merry Christmas); Siddharth Anand, Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone come together to portray air force fighters who band together for a dangerous, rip-roaring mission (Fighter); two Kareena Kapoor Khan films (The Crew, The Buckingham Murders); there is Chandu Champion, starring Kartik Aaryan and directed by Kabir Khan. Brace yourself: We also have a romantic film with Tripti Dimri and Vicky Kaushal.

We have also included films that will be dubbed in Hindi in this list, which has been arranged according to the date of release.

Merry Christmas

Date: 12th January

Director: Sriram Raghavan

Cast: Katrina Kaif, Vijay Sethupathi and Sanjay Kapoor

Two strangers meet on Christmas eve. A night of giddy romance however, soon turns into a nightmare. Though the film was initially slated for a December 2023 release, it was postponed to 12th January, 2024 instead.

Fighter

Date: 25th January

Director: Siddharth Anand

Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, Anil Kapoor and Karan Singh Grover

The film follows the story of top Indian Air Force fighters who band together to face an imminent security threat. The film marks Siddharth Anand’s third collaboration with both Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan.

Amit Joshi & Aradhana Sah's Untitled Next

Date: 9th Feb

Director: Amit Joshi & Aradhana Sah

Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Dharmendra, Dimple Kapadia.

A Jio Studios and Dinesh Vijan presentation, the romantic-drama film also stars Dharmendra.

Anand Tiwari’s Untitled Next

Date: 23rd February

Director: Anand Tiwari

Cast: Vicky Kaushal, Tripti Dimri and Ammy Virk

Anand Tiwari’s next has been described as “an eclectic mix of drama, emotions and a dash of comedy”, promoted online with #MereMehboobMereSanam. Formerly slated to release on 24th August in 2023, it was postponed to early 2024 instead. Vicky Kaushal also starred in Tiwari’s debut feature, Love Per Square Foot (2018). The upcoming film is produced by Amazon Prime in association with Dharma Productions and the Leo Media Collective.

Laapataa Ladies

Date: 1st March

Director: Kiran Rao

Cast: Atishay Jain Akhil, Shivam Ghawariya and Nitanshi Goel

The second film directed by Kiran Rao, after Dhobi Ghat (2010), is about two young brides who disappear from a train. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, and reviews describe it as a jovial and moving exploration of life and womanhood.

Yodha

Date: 15th March

Directors: Pushkar Ojha and Sagar Ambre

Cast: Siddarth Malhotra, Disha Patani and Raashi Khanna

This film follows a soldier who rises to the occasion when an aeroplane is hijacked by terrorists. Yodha is directed by Pushkar Ojha and Sagar Ambre — who have previously worked on action films like Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019), War (2019) and Pathaan (2023) — and bankrolled by Dharma Productions.

The Crew

Cast: Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu, Kriti Sanon, Diljit Dosanjh and Kapil Sharma

The film centres the lives of three women who end up entangled in a web of lies and deceit.

Metro…In Dino

Date: 29th March

Director: Anurag Basu

Cast: Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Neena Gupta and Konkona Sen Sharma

This spin-off, based on director Anurag Basu’s 2007 drama Life…in a Metro, follows the bittersweet connections the characters make as they navigate love and heartbreak in a metropolitan city.

Devara Part 1

Date: 5th April

Director: Koratala Siva

Cast: NTR Jr, Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan

This upcoming Telugu action-drama has been described as “an intensive tale about a man who struck fear in the minds of those who were naive to it.” We look forward to seeing Saif Ali Khan play the villain once again, after Omkara (2006), Tanhaji (2020) and Adipurush (2023). Devara is produced by Yuvasudha Arts and NTR Arts, with hitmaker Anirudh Ravichander composing the soundtrack.

Mr. and Mrs. Mahi

Date: 19th April

Director: Sharan Sharma

Cast: Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Abhishek Banerjee

Zee Studios and Dharma Productions team up for this biopic of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian cricket team. The film is helmed by Sharan Sharma, who previously directed Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020), which also featured Janhvi Kapoor. It marks the second collaboration between Rao and Kapoor after the 2021 horror-comedy, Roohi.

Tehran

Date: 26th April

Director: Arun Gopalan

Cast: John Abraham, Manushi Chillar and Neeru Bajwa

Last seen as the charismatic villain in Pathaan (2023), John Abraham will play the lead role in Arun Gopalan’s geo-political thriller Tehran. The film reportedly draws from real-life events, specifically the Russo-Ukrainian War. It is produced by Maddock Films.

Chandu Champion

Date: 14th June, 2024

Director: Kabir Khan

Cast: Kartik Aaryan, Shraddha Kapoor and Katrina Kaif

The film is based on the life of the extraordinary sportsman Murlikant Petkar.

Singham Again

Date: 15th August

Director: Rohit Shetty

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff

The third instalment of the Singham franchise sees Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor Khan reunite. Deepika Padukone and Tiger Shroff add to the already star-studded cast of Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar in the next instalment of Rohit Shetty’s Cop-verse.

Pushpa 2: The Rule

Date: 15th August

Director: Sukumar

Cast: Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil

The much anticipated sequel to Pushpa: The Rise (2021), the film is going to grace the big screen in August of this year.

Stree 2

Date: 30th August

Director: Amar Kaushik

Cast: Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana

This instalment of the hit franchise sees almost all of the original cast return for a second outing in Chanderi. Except this time, the inscription on the walls has changed to “O Stree, raksha karna (Stree, protect us).” The teaser showed townspeople being terrorised by a headless demon.

Jigra

Date: 27th September

Director: Vasan Bala

Cast: Alia Bhatt

This film marks the first collaboration between Alia Bhatt and Vasan Bala. Jigra is co-produced by Bhatt's company Eternal Sunshine Productions and Karan Johar's Dharma Productions.

Sky Force

Date: 2nd October

Directors: Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur

Cast: Akshay Kumar, Veer Pahariya, Sara Ali Khan and Nimrat Kaur

Based on a true story of an airstrike in 1965, this film stars Akshay Kumar,Sara Ali Khan and Nimrat Kaur inhigh-stakes aerial combat.

Deva

Date: 11th October

Director: Rosshan Andrrews

Cast: Shahid Kapoor and Pooja Hegde

Blockbuster Malayalam director Rosshan Andrrews will make his Hindi debut with this action-thriller that follows the journey of a brilliant yet rebellious police officer investigating a high-profile case. He uncovers a web of deceit and betrayal, leading him down a dangerous path. Deva is produced by Roy Kapur Films and Zee Studios.

Chhaava

Date: 6th December

Director: Laxman Utekar

Cast: Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna

Produced by Maddock Films, this historical drama is based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Laxman Utekar previously directed the rom-com Zara Hatke Zara Bachke (2023), which also starred Vicky Kaushal. Chaava marks the first time Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna — who is fresh off the box-office success of Animal (2023) — will share screen-space.

Welcome To The Jungle

Date: 20th December

Director: Ahmed Khan

Cast: Akshay Kumar, Disha Patani, Jacqeline Fernandes, Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutt and Paresh Rawal.

The third instalment of the Welcome franchise was announced in style: an a cappella extravaganza (that was dropped on Akshay Kumar’s birthday, no less) featuring the film’s massive ensemble cast along with other familiar faces. Welcome To The Jungle is produced by Jio Studios in association with A.A. Nadiadwala.

LSD 2

Date: Tentatively in February

Cast: Nimrit Ahluwalia and Anupam Joardar

The protagonists navigate romantic and sexual desire as existing technologies make the quest more complicated.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan

Date: Tentatively around Eid

Director: Ali Abbas Zafar

Cast: Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff and Prithviraj Sukumaran

The film is a rebooted version of the classic of the same name.

Ulajh

Director: Sudhanshu Saria

Cast: Janhvi Kapoor, Roshan Mathew, Meiyang Chang and Gulshan Devaiah

A young IFS officer, played by Janhvi Kapoor, gets embroiled in a dangerous conspiracy theory over the course of her job.

Murder Mubarak

Director: Homi Adajania

Cast: Pankaj Tripathi, Vijay Varma, Dimple Kapadia, Sara Ali Khan, Tisca Chopra, Karisma Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu and Sanjay Kapoor

This comedy thriller, directed by Homi Adajania, marks the on-screen return ofKarisma Kapoor for the first time since 2012. The film promises to be packed with “mad energy.”

Housefull 5

The fifth instalment in the comedy franchise features the return of Akshay Kumar and Ritesh Deshmukh.

Untitled Remake of Soorarai Pottru

Cast: Akshay Kumar, Radhika Madan and Paresh Rawal

Sudha Kongara’s 2020 Tamil film Soorarai Pottru, which was inspired by the life of the Air Deccan founder, is to be remade in Hindi, under Abundatia Entertainment. Radhika Madan revealed in an interview that the remake will be different from the original. Suriya, who played the lead role in the Tamil film, is reported to make a cameo in the Hindi remake.

Kalki 2898 AD

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Hassan, Prabhaas, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani

This mythological sci-fi epic featuring a star-studded ensemble cast follows a modern-day avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu, who is believed to have descended to earth to protect the world from evil forces. Initially announced under the working title Project K, Kalkiis produced by Vyjayanthi Movies. With a budget of Rs. 600 crore, futuristic sets and high-end technology, it is the one of the most expensive Indian films ever made.

Stolen

Director: Karan Tejpal

Cast: Abhishek Banerjee, Shubham and Mia Maelzer

The thriller follows two brothers who witness a baby being kidnapped at a railway station in rural India. One, guided by moral duty, convinces the other to help the mother and join a perilous investigation to find the baby. The film highlights the class and economic divide in India. Stolen was screened at the BFI London Film Festival in late 2023, and was the sole Indian selection for the Venice Film Festival.

Amar Singh Chamkila

Director: Imtiaz Ali

Cast: Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra

Diljit Dosanjh plays the titular Amar Singh Chamkila in this musical drama that tells the story of Punjab’s original rockstar. Also starring Parineeti Chopra, this Imtiaz Ali directorial, with music by AR Rahman, promises to be an insightful journey through the highs and lows of the life of Chamkila.

Do Patti

Cast: Kajol, Kriti Sanon and Shaheer Sheikh

Kajol and Kriti Sanon reunite after their last film together in 2015, Dilwale. This mystery-thriller is set in the hills of North India.

Ae Watan Mere Watan

Director: Kannan Iyer

Cast: Sara Ali Khan, Benedict Garrett and Abhay Verma

Directed by Kannan Iyer, who co-wrote it with Darab Farooqui, this thriller drama is based on a true story. Sara Ali Khan plays Usha Mehta, a valiant freedom fighter who used the radio to broadcast messages that were banned by the British Raj.

The Buckingham Murders

Director: Hansal Mehta

Cast: Kareena Kapoor Khan, Keith Allen and Joel Morris

A grieving cop, played by Kareena Kapoor Khan, moves to a new town to investigate the case of a missing child. The film marks Kapoor Khan’s first collaboration with Hansal Mehta.

Kennedy

Director: Anurag Kashyap

Cast: Rahul Bhatt, Sunny Leone, Jeniffer Piccinato and Abhilash Thapliyal

The neo-noir thriller is about an ex-police officer who is in cahoots with a corrupt system, but then embarks on a redemptive journey.

Kill

Director: Nikhil Nagesh Bhat

Cast: Lakshya, Raghav Juyal and Tanya Maniktala

Co-produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga's Sikhya Entertainment, Kill has been described as a “brutally violent” action thriller. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2023 to rave reviews by critics.

Sitaare Zameen Par

The details available on the project are scant, but Aamir Khan has said that the film is going to further some of the themes of his 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, which centred around a child with dyslexia, played by Darsheel Safary.

Agni

This action-drama, helmed by the director of Raees (2017), explores and celebrates the lives of firefighters. Production for the film wrapped in late 2022, and a 2024 release seems on the cards. Agni is under the banner of Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment.

Kantara Legend: Chapter 1

Cast: Rishab Shetty, Sapthami Gowda and Achyuth Kumar

2022’s hit Kannada film will be followed by a prequel that delves into the origins of the Kantara legend. The first look teaser for the film garnered a great deal of excitement from fans. Kantara 2 will be dubbed in seven languages, including Hindi and English.

Indian 2

Director: S. Shankar

Cast: Kamal Haasan, S. J. Suryah, Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh and Priya Bhavani Shankar

This upcoming Tamil film is the sequel to the 1996 film Indian — which also starred Kamal Haasan in the lead role — and will continue the story of Senapathy Veerasekaran in his fight against corruption. Indian 2 will tentatively release in the summer of 2024. Indian 3 is being shot simultaneously, and will be released soon after.
